How to measure the quality of aluminum electrolytic capacitor


​Scenario 1:

Discharge the capacitance two pins by using a pointer multimeter, and connect the positive pole of the electrolytic capacitor with the black probe of the multimeter. The red probe is connected to the negative pole (for the pointer multimeter, the probe is adjusted mutually when measured with the digital multimeter). Normally, the probe shall swing in the direction of small resistance, and then return to infinity gradually. The larger the swing amplitude of the probe or the slower the return speed, the larger the capacitance is, otherwise, the smaller the capacitance is. If the probe is no longer changing in the middle, it indicates that the capacitance leakage is not changed. If the resistance indication value is very small or zero, it indicates that the capacitance has broken down a short circuit. Because the battery voltage used by the multimeter is generally very low, Therefore, it is more accurate to measure the capacitance with low voltage, while when the voltage of the capacitor is high, the leakage or breakdown phenomenon may occur when the measurement is normal when the capacitor is hit.

Option 2:

Measure the capacitance with a digital multimeter, set the gear to the capacitance (select the range according to the capacitance value you measured). When testing, lap two feet of the capacitance with two probes. The meter has a certain value, then return to the infinite position, change the probe and try again. This time, the display data is slightly different, and then return to infinity, which indicates that the capacitance is good. If the capacitance cannot be returned to infinity, it means leakage, If infinite is shown, it means that the internal circuit is open or there is no capacity.
